Peter was a field specialist who became a dominant force in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Originally from California, he exploded onto the international scene by winning three gold medals and one bronze medal at the 1960 Paralympic Games in Rome, Italy.
He went on to represent Team USA again at the 1964 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, where he earned fourth-place finishes in three separate events.
Fellow competitor David Williamson recalled:
“I competed against Pete in field events. Pete was a strong competitor and a great ambassador for wheelchair sports in general.”
Following his competitive career, Pete dedicated his time to coaching juniors, training them to excel in the sport he loved.
