70 Years Moving Sport Forward

Moving Sport Forward

For 70 years, we've been moving sport forward and the movement continues, with 70 more years of work ahead. Join us in celebrating the pioneers, champions, and everyday people who've shaped our movement.

Our Legacy: Seven Decades of Impact

From 16 wheelchair archers in 1948 to 245 member organizations today, Move United's 70-year journey reflects the transformation of adaptive sports from medical rehabilitation to lifelong health, sports and recreation.
It began with WWII veterans - members of the 10th Mountain Division bringing adaptive sports to the U.S. These pioneers created access where none existed, building the framework for veterans returning from Korea, Vietnam, and beyond.
From wheelchair basketball to adaptive skiing, from Stoke Mandeville to the Paralympics, the movement has evolved into a member network driving sports, recreation, and community inclusion.
We use the power of sport to push what's possible - confronting ignorance, fueling conversation, and inciting action toward a world where everyone's included. Sports make us more. More determined. More powerful. More ourselves.
This year, we celebrate 70 years: from therapeutic recreation through civil rights victories, into today's era of competitive excellence. For seven decades, Move United has carried forward the legacy of pioneers who refused to accept limitations.
