Position: Winter Internship
Time Frame: January 5th -April 10th (start and end date negotiable) – Full Time
About STARS: With a mission to empower and enrich lives through adaptive recreational activities, STARS (Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports) was founded in 2006 to provide recreational programming to individuals with disabilities. We strive to increase our participants’ independence while focusing on their abilities rather than disabilities. Our program is based on the three pillars of safety, fun, and learning, so participants can work to achieve their personal goals!
The STARS internship program is designed to provide an immersive experience within the world of non-profit recreational services. Specifically, as a ski/snowboard instructor, and overnight camps assistant. The job will revolve around the planning, facilitation, and execution of exceptional participant experiences for our multi-day camp guests and participants in private on-snow lessons.
Majors accepted: Students majoring in Recreational Therapy, adaptive sports, recreation, sport management/leisure studies, business administration, event management, psychology, or related field. All college levels are welcome to apply, but juniors and seniors who need internship credit to graduate are strongly considered.
Job Description: Interns will be required to know how to ski or snowboard at an intermediate level (blue trails). Be able to work with participants of all ages and abilities. Work as an instructor and overnight camp assistant, which includes helping with meals, transportation, and assistance where needed. In addition, some office work. STARS is a NCTRC approved site.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Communicate clearly and effectively with participants, staff, and supervisors
• Assist with overnight camps alongside the Camps Manager
• Assist with guest/participant interactions on/off-site, including but not limited to mealtimes, transportation, lesson delivery, satisfaction surveys, and evening ‘on-call’ hours
• Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents adaptive ski lessons
Qualifications:
• Customer service/hospitality experience preferred
• Driver’s license and experience with winter driving preferred
• Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
• Reliable, flexible, organized, and detail-oriented
This internship opportunity will demand a lot, but is guaranteed to provide outstanding real-world experience. All STARS interns should expect to assist in program facilitation, including working closely with STARS participants on and off the mountain. All interns will be subject to a background check due to the nature of our work.

• Represent STARS in a professional and responsible manner both on and off the clock
• Willingness to provide programs in all outdoor settings and weather conditions
• Cooperate and collaborate with all STARS staff, board members, volunteers, participants, parents/caregivers, and donors
• Occasional long days, weekends, and evening work are expected
• Ability to give and receive feedback in a positive manner
