David Williamson

David Williamson was an active wheelchair athlete from 1963 to 1983, representing the United States in eighteen different countries. He won a record forty-two gold medals in the Paralympic, Pan American and other international competitions. During his twenty year career, David competed in the pentathlon; field (shot put, discus, javelin); basketball; swimming and track. He won over one hundred gold, silver and bronze medals in national and regional competitions, breaking or setting an array of national and regional records. David also established or broke eight world records. To round out his career, David was on the first six athletes to compete in the wheelchair division of the Boston Marathon.

David also served on the National Wheelchair Athletic Committee during the 1980’s and was involved in the organization, management and officiating at various sanctioned regional events throughout the nation.

David also won the national wheelchair slalom even eight out of nine years and was considered the premier wheelchair slalom athlete in the world at that time.
