Andy has been a leader in the development of junior wheelchair sports in the United States. His impact on sports for people with disabilities has been felt at the regional, national and international levels.

Locally, the Garwood, New Jersey native built the Children’s Specialized Hospital team into the largest and strongest in the nation. During his thirteen years as the program’s leader, hundreds of junior athletes were exposed to wheelchair sports. In addition, he hosted more than forty regional competitions in the Tri-State Region.

Andy’s contributions on a national level are no less impressive. In 1982, he became founding member of the Wheelchair Sports USA Junior Committee. He served as its chairman from 1988 to 1994, during which time the junior movement experienced its greatest growth. After stepping down as chairman, he continued to serve the committee through 1999. Andy hosted two Wheelchair Sports USA Junior National Championship competitions during this period.

Chasanoff was one of the first people in the United States to lead junior teams abroad, having done so on four different occasions.
