I was diagnosed at age 12 weeks with Bilateral Retinoblastoma (cancer in both eyes) which has left me visually impaired and then the treatment for that, left me hearing impaired. I have not let that stop me from excelling and enjoying life.
I got involved in adaptive sports when I found a local youth triathlon and decided to give it a try. Sports are important because they keep me active and healthy, and I enjoy the competition. In the off-season, I enjoy playing blind ice hockey for the Pittsburgh Rhinos Blind Hockey team.
To someone who is thinking of trying adaptive sports, I would say "Give it a shot. If you like it, great, you found a new hobby, if you don’t like it, at least you tried.”
