“It is never too late to participate in Sport given Adaptive Sports.” - Sergeant John Vacca, U.S. Army
Vacca had his left leg amputated below the knee in 2002 after his first battle with cancer.
After retiring from the military in 2010 and beating cancer a second time, Vacca set a new goal - to learn how to stand up alpine ski. He took the No Barriers Challenge, pushing past perceived limitations. With determination and the help of VA Recreation Therapy and Move United Partner Organization, that goal was accomplished and became livelihood empowering. Vacca is a Move United Warfighter Ambassador, Veteran Peer Advocate, and gives back supporting veterans in a range of ways and organizations.
Post military, Vacca had a 30-year career in the local county government IT department. He is also a music DJ.
