Large scale adaptive sports equipment should primarily include items modified for accessibility and use by persons with a disability i.e. sit-ski’s, ski’s and snowboards, court chairs, racing chairs, throwing chairs, hockey sleds, power-soccer chairs, handcycles, other types of adapted cycles, adapted kayaks and paddleboards. The program description must also include an activation event, with local media, to engage with The Hartford including: Gifting moment for the new equipment, surprise equipment donation to a local youth or adult (additional grant money will be awarded); Media outreach and engagement plan; Volunteer opportunities for The Hartford employees. The activation event can, include a school sports program, camp, tournament, or clinic, and can be an existing event. The event must feature The Hartford prominently in marketing materials. It is not required to be a large scale event. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mid-day (10am-2pm) events are preferred but not mandatory.

Should be SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound, i.e. 10 youth with a disability will each receive 6 hours of tennis instruction and 6 hours of wheelchair basketball instruction over 3 days. At the conclusion of the camp, 85% will report they have learned the skills necessary to participate in these sports independently and 75% will report that they plan to continue participating.
