Learn MoreBuilding on the mission of the Hero clinics, the Everyday Heroes Clinic is the Stand Up and Play Foundation’s inclusive community program. While the standard Hero clinics focus on the Veteran and First Responder communities, Everyday Heroes opens the fairways to everyone in the Lowcountry.
Hosted at The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation, this clinic is designed to prove that golf is a game for every body and every ability.
A Truly Inclusive Environment. The “Everyday Heroes” name reflects the foundation’s belief that anyone navigating a challenge—whether physical, developmental, or emotional—is a hero in their own right. This clinic welcomes:
- All Ages: From children to seniors.
- All Challenges: This includes mobility impairments, spinal cord injuries, stroke recovery, and amputations, as well as “invisible” challenges like autism, Down syndrome, or muscular dystrophy.
- No Disability Required: Just like the regular Hero clinics, you do not need a disability to join. Family members, caregivers, and other supporters are encouraged to participate alongside their loved ones.
The Goal — Golf Therapy for All The Everyday Heroes clinic isn’t just about learning to swing a club; it’s about active standing therapy and social integration. Participants benefit from:
Adaptive Equipment: Access to the foundation’s VertaCat and Paragolfer chairs (all-terrain standing wheelchairs), which allow wheelchair users to stand up and swing safely.
Family Bonding: A rare opportunity for families to engage in a sport together on equal footing, regardless of physical limitations.
Mental Well-being: Breaking the isolation that often comes with chronic illness or injury by joining a supportive, high-energy community.
Clinic Details
When: Typically held on the 1st Saturday of each month. Time: 8:30 am – 11:00 am.
Cost: Free to the community.
Location: The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation (Summerville, SC).
No Experience Needed: Professional instructors and volunteers are on-site to assist, and all equipment is provided.
