Learn MoreThe Hero Golf Clinics (Helping Emergency Responders Overcome), hosted by the Lowcountry Chapter of the Stand Up and Play Foundation, offer a unique opportunity for those who have dedicated their lives to service to find community and healing through the game of golf.
Held at The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation in Summerville, SC, these clinics are designed to be inclusive, therapeutic, and, most importantly, a place for connection.
Who Can Participate? A common misconception is that you must have a physical disability or mobility challenge to attend. This is not the case. While the foundation is famous for its VertaCat and Paragolfer chairs (specialized standing wheelchairs designed for adaptive sports), the Hero program is open to:
- Veterans (all eras and branches). First Responders (Police, Fire, Ems, etc.).
- Family Members of veterans or first responders.
- Gold Star Families and families of the fallen.
Whether you are dealing with a physical injury, navigating mental health challenges like PTSD, or simply looking for the camaraderie of fellow service members, you are welcome on the green.
Why Join the Clinic? The focus of these sessions goes far beyond improving your handicap. The program is built around three core pillars:
Camaraderie: Connecting with peers who share similar backgrounds and life experiences.
The Joy of Golf: Rediscovering a recreational passion or learning a new skill in a low-pressure environment.
Overcoming Challenges: Addressing both the physical and “invisible” injuries (such as stress and trauma) that often follow a career in service.
Clinic Details Location: The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation (5000 Wescott Club Dr, Summerville, SC). Cost: Free Equipment: Provided at no cost if you don’t have your own.
Experience Level: All levels are welcome—no previous golf experience is required.
