The CTRS is a part-time, contracted position. This position is responsible for creating and conducting recreational therapy sessions for individuals or groups. The Rec Therapist will be responsible for creating high-quality recreation programs for individuals with disabilities. Hours will vary based on the number of appointments this person conducts. There is no minimum-hour guarantee. Saturday appointments required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contact and schedule appointments with prospective clients.
Review all appropriate paperwork with client and get signatures where necessary.
Establish goals with clients based on assessments.
Develop safe, effective and progressive recreation programs for clients.
Provide a written therapy plan and follow up for clients.
Promote other activities within the facility.
Keeps abreast of current trends in fields of responsibility by reviewing professional literature and participating in professional organizations.
Maintain industry certifications.
Carry personal liability insurance.
Ensure safety of clients and membership users.
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Utilize standard word-processing software and other standard office equipment.
Address questions and concerns regarding programs and facility.
Maintain and care for program equipment.
Must maintain at least 1 client per month
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Hours: Work schedule requires a great deal of flexibility and is dependent upon program needs and will include some early mornings, evenings and weekends. Primary schedule for this position is based on the needs of our members and your availability. Saturday appointments required. Please only apply if you can fulfill the time requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exceptional ability to work cooperatively with others and create a positive relationship with staff and the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center members. Have a considerable knowledge of the autism spectrum, adaptive recreation principles, theories and techniques. Knowledge of adaptive equipment in fitness, sports, recreation programs, and risk management.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation with current CTRS or ability to take NCTRC exam, and one year of professional experience working with people with autism; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-described duties.
Must have current First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
Clean criminal background required.
Working Conditions: Pressures and stress of the position include dealing with crisis situations, meeting deadlines and supporting a wide variety of participant and staff needs. Work is performed in a highly visible, busy environment, with a large volume of public contact and disruptions.
