Summer Staff Instructor

Access Mammoth seeks an energetic, recreation enthusiast to join our program staff as a Summer Staff Instructor. Instructors are responsible for planning and teaching adaptive lessons in mountain biking, road cycling, paddling, and other outdoor recreation activities.

  • Instructors work closely with participants, their families, and caregivers to design lessons that meet individual goals while ensuring safe, fun, and rewarding experiences. Lessons are primarily one-on-one, with occasional group programming during half-day, full-day, and multi-day camps.
    In addition to delivering high-quality adaptive recreation experiences, instructors assist with events, equipment maintenance, program logistics, athlete and volunteer outreach, and daily scheduling. Staff participate in ongoing training clinics focused on adaptive equipment, various disabilities, and sport-specific instruction. Travel between program sites and transportation of equipment is required.

  • Comfortable being physically active for up to six hours per day in various weather conditions
  • Comfortable road cycling, mountain biking, swimming, and flatwater paddling
  • Teaching or guiding experience preferred but not required
  • Basic bicycle maintenance experience preferred.

 

Education & Work Experience 

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (required)
  • Lifeguard certification or ability to obtain certification during the summer
  • Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification or higher preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required
  • Experience driving passenger trucks and hauling trailers preferred
  • Experience working with people with disabilities preferred

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Frequently moves adaptive equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Works outdoors instructing lessons approximately 50–75% of the time

Completes indoor administrative and desk-based work approximately 25–50% of the time

 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Instruct adaptive recreation lessons
  • Facilitate safe, inclusive outdoor experiences
  • Maintain adaptive equipment and oversee parts inventory
  • Assist with program logistics for lessons and multi-day camps
  • Support outreach events and fundraising efforts (occasional travel required)
  • Assist with volunteer coordination, athlete outreach, scheduling, and program planning

Pay Range: $20-22/hour, depending on certifications
