About the Organization
A non-profit organization, Achieve Tahoe leads the way in providing adaptive sports and outdoor recreation for people with disabilities and their families. Achieve Tahoe remains dedicated to the belief that sports are a vital part of the process in which individuals with disabilities build health, confidence, and independence. Its programs instill in participants the knowledge that it’s not their disabilities, but their abilities that count. Participants will tell you with pride, “If I can do this, I can do anything.”SM
Based at Alpine at Palisades Tahoe in North Lake Tahoe, CA, Achieve Tahoe serves over 900 individuals with disabilities and their families annually. A team of committed and experienced professionals lead over 300 active and dedicated volunteers.
About the Position
Under the direct supervision of a Program Coordinator, the Adaptive Sailing Instructor delivers safe and fun sports and outdoor recreation programs on Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake for people with disabilities and their families.
Primary duties include:
Requirements for the Adaptive Sailing Instructor include High School graduate, or equivalent; at least one year of experience teaching sailing; and possess, or can acquire a valid Driver’s License.
The ideal Adaptive Sailing Instructor will have experience teaching sailing to individuals with diverse backgrounds and abilities. The ideal Adaptive Sailing Instructor will possess a college degree in a related field and certification in basic First Aid/CPR.

The Adaptive Sailing Instructor must have the ability to engage with, gain the respect and cooperation of, and effectively and professionally communicate verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups of both internal and external constituents such as program participants and their families, staff and volunteers, community members, individual donors, sponsors, and Board members. They must also have an outgoing personality with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a willingness and passion for teaching, and excellent team skills. Personal initiative and strong work ethic are expected, yet the work environment is relaxed, friendly and fun.
Dates of Employment – This is a summer seasonal position available June through August 2026.
Weekly Work Schedule – 24-40 hours per week, depending on program needs and instructor availability; may include working Saturdays.
Compensation – Starting pay is $22-28 per hour DOE.
