Member Services Specialist – Warfighters Community Outreach

Type:  Part-Time, 20 hours per week 

Location:  Move United Headquarters, Rockville, MD  

Salary: $20 per hour

Move United, an affiliate of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee and a national leader in sports and recreation for individuals with disabilities is seeking someone with direct, and preferably lived experience as a disabled Veteran to fill the position of Member Services Specialist to support its Warfighters and Warfighters Ambassador Program.  Move United is an expanding, thriving charity dedicated to the life-changing power of sports for youth and adults with disabilities and focused on inclusion. I. General Description (Position Overview) 

 

The Member Services Specialist for Warfighters Community Outreach is part of the overall Move United team with responsibility for coordinating Community Relations aspects of its Warfighters Program, and Warfighters Ambassador Program. The Specialist will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between Move United and the Veteran community. This role will focus on building connections, recruiting participants, providing support, and advocating for the needs and interests of Veterans. This position will be critical in activating our Warfighter Ambassadors within local communities and at national events. 

 

This position is administrative in nature and the Specialist must be comfortable working on a computer in a fast-paced business environment. Activities and skills important to this position include project management, excellent communication and outreach, and effective abilities to use a range of software and technology platforms.  

 

 

The Specialist will support the Individual Membership Manager, the Member Services team and organization to further the Move United strategic plan.  

 

Teamwork and cross-sectional support, work, responsibility, and execution are cultural pillars to working at Move United. The Specialist will regularly interface with and support the efforts of other areas in the organization including communications, marketing, programs, membership, competitions, and events.

This includes, at times, working in different capacities in different departments in the furtherance of our mission. The Specialist will act as a key representative for Move United at events and some travel, including weekends, is required. This position will travel for work-related trips at least 6 times per year. Travel expenses are covered by Move United.   

 

 II. Specific Responsibilities 

  

Outreach and Communication 

  • Act as the primary point of contact for military, Veteran service organizations, and VA partners to identify potential candidates for the Warfighters and Warfighter Ambassador program. 
  • Maintain regular communication with Warfighters and prospective Ambassadors, promptly addressing inquiries and concerns to ensure their needs are met effectively. 
  • Maintain accurate records and data management practices to document all outreach and communication. 
  • Collaborate with various departments within Move United to effectively communicate participation, competition, volunteer, and awareness-building opportunities to Warfighter Ambassadors, fostering active engagement and involvement. 

 

Recruitment & Onboarding 

  • Streamline the Warfighters and Warfighter Ambassador application and onboarding processes, encompassing: 
  • Identifying potential Warfighters and Ambassadors through targeted recruitment efforts. 
  • Maintaining clear and consistent communication with applicants throughout the application process. 
  • Implementing thorough vetting and screening procedures for all applicants. 
  • Facilitating comprehensive onboarding and training sessions for newly appointed Ambassadors. 
  • Ensuring the collection and maintenance of up-to-date demographic information for all Warfighter Ambassadors. 
  • Establishing a user-friendly system for Warfighter Ambassadors to monitor and report their recruitment and outreach activities effectively. 
  • Oversee a comprehensive recruitment strategy for new Warfighters and Warfighter Ambassadors, which includes collaborating with military, non-profit partners, Move United member organizations, and VA partners to identify potential candidates. 

 

Community Engagement 

  • Organize and actively participate in community events, meetings, and forums to promote the organization’s goals, initiatives, and services, fostering community involvement and support. 
  • Collaborate with community leaders and organizations to identify needs, opportunities, and resources for community development projects and initiatives, promoting sustainable growth and impact. 
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community relations efforts, gather feedback from stakeholders, and prepare comprehensive reports to assess outcomes and recommend improvements, ensuring continuous growth and success. 

 

Relationship Building 

  • Develop and nurture positive relationships with community members, local organizations, businesses, government agencies, and other stakeholders, fostering collaboration and support for the organization’s mission and initiatives. 

 

Cross Departmental 

  • The Specialist may be called upon to support other departments, particularly as it relates to Move United’s signature events each year: Education Conference, The Hartford Nationals and The Hartford Ski Spectacular 

 

III. Reporting Relationship 

  • The Specialist reports to the Individual Membership Manager.  
  • This position will work in tandem with the Member Services Specialist – Ambassador Program. 

 

IV. Required Skills: 

 

  • Work Experience: 

– Knowledge and experience in project planning and management 

– Community engagement experience 

– Military and Veteran experience 

– Robust online platform understanding (for example; Microsoft products, LMS programs, Adobe Acrobat, WordPress, Salesforce (or similar CRM), video conferencing systems, or similar) and the ability to use general office technology  

 

  • Personal Attributes: 

– Excellent communication skills, customer service oriented, efficient multi-tasker with good attention to detail.   

– Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment 

– A proven track record of initiative and effective decision making is required 

– Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment 

While this position is an in-person role, Move United is a hybrid work environment which means many of your colleagues will be working 100% remote. The following qualities are important in this type of work environment; Self-motivated, focused, time management, problem solving skills 

 

 

  • Education: 

– Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in related field 

 

  • Travel: 

-Ability to travel (within the United States) – estimated 15-20% 

-Some travel, including weekends for special/signature events

  • Education:
