About

This year’s conference invites sport providers to gather over a common interest in ensuring athletes with disabilities have access to sport. Anticipating 350+ attendees at the event, discussion will center around improving access through centering people with disabilities in the business of adaptive sport.  Sessions offered during this event will fall under one of the following categories.

    • Sport-Specific Instruction
    • Non-Profit Management
    • Inclusion in Schools & Universities
    • General

 

AUDIENCE

Historically, attendees have represented a variety of affiliations including Move United member organizations, general sport organizations, city parks & recreation departments, National Governing Bodies, universities, schools, VA hospital staff, general hospital therapists, disability resource groups, and more.

 

ABOUT OUR HOST PARTNER

This year’s conference will be locally hosted by Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center, a Move United member organization. The Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center is a 45,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility devised to provide exceptional adaptive sports, recreation, aquatic, and fitness programs that promote the independence, health, and overall well-being of people with disabilities and their family members.

The Sports & Fitness Center is co-located at the Ability360 Center which is a 62,000-square-foot universally designed, accessible and transit-oriented non-profit resources center serving the disability community in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area. A national model for accessible design and collaborative programming, the Ability360 Center is located in the heart of Phoenix, less than two and a half miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and situated conveniently on the Valley Metro light rail system.

The Sports & Fitness Center is a program of Ability360 which is a Center for Independent Living, a non-profit run by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities to address needs and barriers within the community. Building off of attendee feedback requesting more interactive sessions, this partnership with the Ability360 team and its facilities will allow for an increased number of interactive workshops.

This hotel offers complimentary shuttles to/from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The hotel is about 1 mile from the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center, which can be accesses by walking/rolling or by the Valley Metro Rail. Both the Crowne Plaza and Ability360 are connected to stops on the Valley Metro Rail. Sessions will be hosted out of both the Crowne Plaza and Ability360.

Any hotel guest that requires ADA transportation from the airport can submit their receipt at check-in and we will issue a credit against their room.

  • 6 ft. display table and 2 chairs Tuesday 4/23/2024 – Wednesday 4/24/2024. If your equipment requires additional space, please note you will be able asked to pay for the additional “table” space onsite. Event check in is 4/22/2024.

Who should attend?

This event is appropriate individuals of all experience levels working with individuals with disabilities in the sport space.  Anyone wishing to acquire new skills, refresh their skills or investigate new topics and conversations are encouraged to attend. Additionally, students and others wishing to explore the field and network are welcome. There will be sessions open to individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.

How can I get from the airport to the host hotel?

If you are staying at the host hotel, the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport hotel, the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to/from the airport. Please call the hotel directly to set up this service. Additionally, attendees may take the Phoenix Sky Train from the airport to the hotel.

How can I get from the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport Hotel to the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center?

Attendees will have several options to available to get to the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center from the host hotel. Please see below for detials:

  • Take the Valley Metro Rail (sometimes referred to as the Light Rail) from the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport hotel to Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center. There are stops both outside of the hotel and Ability360. To learn more about the accessibility of the Valley Metro, please refer here.
  • Walk/roll to Ability360. The distance is about 1 mile.

Move United and Ability360 will also have a few accessible vehicles available for those needing alternative transportation options. Please reach out to Cayla Hammaker at chammaker@moveunitedsport.org with any questions.

Where will the conference sessions be hosted?

Conference sessions will primarily be hosted out of the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center and the host hotel, the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport hotel. There will be a handful of sessions and social events hosted external to these two venues.

Do presenters receive compimentary registration to the conference?

Yes, presenters will receive a complimentary reigstration to the conference. They will be provided instructions on how to register at no charge.

I can no longer attend the event - can I receive a refund?

Attendees will be eligible for refunds until March 15th. Beyond March 15th, we are not able to provide refunds.

Is this event appropriate only for those working in the adaptive sports industry?

Not at all! The conference will have sessions for individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.

I have attended Move United Conferences in the past, should I come again?

Absolutely! While there are a few familiar faces among our team of presenters, all of the presentations and workshops will be new for the 2024 conference. Attending the conference each year will help you make progress on your professional development goals and expand your network.

Will CEUs be offered for these sessions?

Yes! Qualifying sessions will be submitted for NCTRC as well as BlazeSports CARSS continuing education pre-approval. If you are interested in receiving other CEUs, please reach out to Cayla Hammaker at chammaker@moveunitedsport.org. We are always looking to expand benefits offered through the conference.
