Program Eligibility

Salute Military Golf Association (SMGA)

The SMGA’s mission is to provide rehabilitative golf programs, experiences, and family inclusive golf opportunities for post 9/11 wounded war veterans in an effort to improve the quality of life for these American heroes.

For SMGA eligibility consideration, Post 9/11 Combat Injury(s), including PTSD and TBI require supporting documents linking injury(s) to your overseas contingency operations.  Documents must show Combat-Related or Linked to Combat.  Unfortunately, “Service-connected” ratings do not suffice.  Combat or Deployment related link is often provided in your VA Determination Findings or Notice or you may contact SMGA directly for further assistance.  Please remember to redact any personal info before uploading or submitting for review. Please find an example here: VA Findings & Determination.

In order to become an SMGA Member, you must be a service member or veteran of the US Armed Forces wounded or injured (incl. PTSD and TBI) while conducting overseas contingency operations post-9/11/2001 AND have successfully completed an SMGA Clinic Series (6 out of 6 clinics).

Move United

Move United’s mission is to provide national leadership and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to develop independence, confidence, and fitness through participation in community sports, recreation and educational programs.

To qualify for Move United Warfighters you must be a military member (pre and post 9/11) who has sustained a permanent physical disability (combat or non-combat injured) and need adaptive instruction or equipment. Disabilities served include (but are not limited to) amputation, TBI, visual impairments, burn damage, severe muscle and nerve damage and spinal cord injury.

Club Donation Program

Eligible wounded veterans and service members who attend all six clinics in a single series may qualify for a custom fitted set of PING or TaylorMade clubs. It is the service member’s responsibility to sign in each week to have attendance counted towards clubs.

SMGA Eligibility:

  • Must qualify to become an SMGA Member
  • See above description under Program Eligibility
  • SMGA will ask for applicable documentation to verify participants’ service and nature of wounds/injuries

Move United Eligibility:

  • Must have a permanent physical disability and need adaptive instruction or equipment
  • Please refer to the list of qualifying disabilities above under Program Eligibility
  • Acceptance of a set of PING clubs indicates that you plan to keep them for your personal use
  • Clubs will be engraved with your name and cannot be sold, exchanged or transferred to another individual

Club distribution is at the sole discretion of SMGA and Move United based on program qualifications and club availability.
