With the help and support of a generous community, Eagle Mount opens up a world of adventures-skiing, horseback riding, swimming, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, cycling, fishing, and more — that foster freedom, joy, strength, focus, and confidence. Set under the beauty of Montana’s legendary big sky, Eagle Mount focuses on people’s abilities, while gently supporting their disabilities.
For nearly 40 years, with the help and support of a generous community, we’ve focused on celebrating abilities while supporting disabilities. We serve individuals with disabilities of all ages, as well as people with cancer. Whether horseback riding, skiing, swimming, gardening, cycling, climbing, or enjoying a variety of other activities, our participants and their families expand their horizons in a multitude of ways through each of Montana’s four seasons. Recreation means a lot more than play-time; it is a chance for literal “re-creation” — restoring yourself by discovering new strength, confidence, freedom, and joy.
Our Story
Eagle Mount was established in 1982 by Robert and Greta Mathis. The Mathises believed recreation opportunities could empower those with disabilities to “mount up with wings as eagles,” and they created a small ski program. Since then—thanks to our caring community of supporters—Eagle Mount has grown to occupy a 19-acre campus in Bozeman, as well as offer a broad spectrum of activities, camps, and events for its participants. Following its founders’ wishes, Eagle Mount never turns anyone away if they cannot pay, and is funded entirely through private dollars. These days, we serve about 2,000 participants a year, with the help of an equal number of volunteers. Recognized by the Today show as one of five small U.S. charities that make a big difference, we continue to be inspired by the courage, determination, and gifts of those whose abilities are different from our own.
Our Mission
Eagle Mount Bozeman is committed to provide quality adaptive recreation and sport opportunities for people with disabilities and young people with cancer, and to provide support for families of participants, so that ‘they shall mount up with wings as eagles.’
