Ann Walters-Thompson, from Weatogue, CT, was a member of the USA Ski Team and was in a skiing accident in 1985 that left her paralyzed. During rehabilitation, she was introduced to wheelchair sports and would enroll at the University of Illinois that fall. Walters-Thompson was an integral member of the Illinois Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team which won a number of national championships. She was also part of the USA Women’s Basketball Team that competed in Sydney, Australia at the 2000 Paralympics. Walters-Thompson was a dual sport athlete, also excelling in wheelchair racing.
