As a young Marine, Chris Kaag was diagnosed with
adrenomy eloneuropathy, a degenerative nerve
condition that cut short his career in the military and
eventually led to his discharge from the service. During
his time spent at the Walter Reed National Military
Medical Center while treating the disease, Chris saw
first hand the impact that severe illness and injury could
have on individuals and their families and determined
that he would create a mechanism for those people to
recover their lives.
US Marine Chris Kaag, Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, started IM ABLE Foundation after he was diagnosed with adrenomy eloneuropathy and discharged from the service. IM ABLE has awarded hundreds of grants for adaptive equipment since 2007 and started inclusive programming empowering athletes of all abilities to push their limits. Kaag has been inducted into the Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, recognized by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and received the American Red Cross Community Impact Hero Award (2015).
