Born in Floydada, Texas, Dollie grew up in Woodburn, Oregon and graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. She received a Master’s Degree from Syracuse University and went on to develop the physical fitness programming for the very first Peace Corps cadre in the early 60’s. Dollie taught Physical Education in the public schools for years while raising her family.
In 1986, Dollie became President of the SKIFORALL Foundation, a fledgling adaptive ski program (now Outdoors for All) and was later named Executive Director in 1990. Over the next 15 years she built SKIFORALL into one of the largest outdoor recreation programs of its kind in the country. To complement SKIFORALL’s winter program she helped develop a comprehensive summer recreation program with kayaking, hiking, bicycling, and water skiing for people with a variety of physical and cognitive disabilities.
Dollie was a PSIA certified ski instructor and Division Clinic Leader and taught thousands of adaptive ski lessons to students in Alpental Ski School in Washington; the Breckenridge, CO Ski School; and also the Snowbird Ski School in Japan. Dollie co-founded the Washington State Ski/Snowboard Museum and served as the Vice-President and Docent for years. She also served as President of the Board of Directors of the Washington State Centennial Games, for which she was recognized by President George H.W. Bush.
