Greg Mannino was always a natural athlete. As a junior in high school, he was on the football and wrestling teams. In 1979 at the age of 17, Greg Mannino lost his leg when he was electrocuted in a workplace accident. While dealing with the trauma of losing his leg, his parents summoned him one day and told him they were all going skiing. Greg hit the slopes on one leg with his dad by his side – while his mom cheered them on. And the rest was history. That experience brought back his passion for sports and once again gave him that competitive drive. Greg soon experienced his love of speed again.

As a 5 Time Paralympic athlete and a12 Time Paralympic medalist, including six gold medals, Greg spent 20 years on the U.S. Adaptive Alpine Ski Team. He also competed in one Winter Olympics Game in a demonstration event. His first Winter Paralympics was in 1988 in Innsbruck Austria; Greg won silver medals in both the Giant Slalom and Downhill. In the 1992 Games in Albertville, France, he won gold in the Super-G and Downhill and silver in the Slalom and Giant Slalom. In Lillehammer, Norway in 1994, Greg again won gold medals in Super-G and the Downhill and a bronze in the Giant Slalom. Nagano, Japan in 1998 saw Greg bring home 2 golds, again in the Super-G and Downhill and a bronze in the Giant Slalom. Finally, Greg competed in the Downhill in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Paralympics but did not make the podium.

At one point in his career, Greg was one of the few disabled alpine racers that pursued the able body FIS Racing circuit. He also appeared on the cover of Ski Magazine. Greg was a certified prosthetist by vocation.
