Sports always played a prominent role in Marty Morse’s life. During his youth in Massachusetts, he engaged in a variety of competitive sports. After sustaining a spinal cord injury, Marty enrolled at the Mecca of wheelchair sports, the University of Illinois. Although Marty competed with the University of Illinois Wheelchair Track and Field Team in national competitions and on the USA Team in international events, his involvement as a non-competitor at the University Rehabilitation Education Center is his claim to fame in wheelchair sports.
For more than twenty years as a coach, writer, researcher and instructor, Marty has advanced the training techniques of athletes and coaches to unprecedented heights. His professional work in the lab as well as in the field are world renowned. His clinics for novice athletes and coaches and the elite athletes he coached in Track, Road Races and Marathons is legendary. No coach in the history of this organization has mentored or supported new and veteran coaches or trainers more than Marty Morse. His contributions to the science of coaching and training wheelchair athletes is unsurpassed.
