Robert Classon

Bob Classon competed in the National Wheelchair Games in the 1960s. His main events were archery and table tennis. However, he is being inducted into the Hall of Fame in the Outstanding Contributions Division because of his professional influence as a member of the National Wheelchair Athletic Committee.

Bob helped frame and write the organization’s very first official Constitution and Bylaws, and he served on the Bylaw Committee for many years.

In the early 1960s, Classon served as the National President of Paralyzed Veterans of America and as the Executive Director of the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association. Both organizations were instrumental in the founding of wheelchair sports in the United States and are ardent supporters of sports—both financially and morally—to this day.

Bob used his gift of forceful persuasion with many of his New York contacts to support wheelchair sports programming during the formative years.
