Tatyana McFadden Competitor Award!

The Tatyana McFadden award, named after one of the world’s most accomplished athletes, is available to youth with disabilities between the ages of 4-18 years old that are competing in any of the 2024 Move United Sanctioned Competition summer sports competitions. The award provides up to $500 of travel support to awarded youth athletes, thanks to generous support from Tatyana McFadden and the DICK’s Sporting Good Foundation which helps under-resourced nonprofit organizations provide opportunities for youth to play sports nationwide.

Applicants:

  • Must register and compete at THE HARTFORD Nationals during the 2024 season
  • Must have an eligible impairment as defined by the International Paralympic Committee and be classifiable
  • Must be 18 or younger on 7/20/2024
  • Must submit only one application per athlete for the 2024 competition season
  • Must request no more than $500 for travel related expenses, which the applicant is responsible for making
  • Must submit application via the Move United Hub by June 14, 2024
  • Must complete a very brief 2-4 sentence survey within ten days after the competition.

 

How to Apply

 

The Tatyana McFadden Competitor Award is open to all Move United Individual Members. To learn more about Move United Individual Membership, please visit our membership website. Applicants must register as a Move United Individual Member (it’s Free!). To register for a Move United Individual Member Account please visit hub.moveunitedsport.org. Parents are encouraged to set up a youth membership account and then apply for the award.

About Tatyana

 

Tatyana McFadden is the fastest woman in the world! Some of Tatyana’s remarkable accomplishments include:

  • 20 Paralympic medals (including eight gold medals)

Tatyana has competed across the United States and around the world and recognizes that the cost of traveling to competitions is a significant barrier to youth adaptive athletes to compete. The Tatyana McFadden Competitor Award (1) recognizes future elite adaptive athletes and (2) provides financial support for travel costs to select summer adaptive sports competition.

What age group can apply for a Tatyana McFadden Competitor Award?

Any youth adaptive athletes between ages 4-18 can apply.

How do I apply?

The Tatyana McFadden Competitor Award applicants must register as a Move United Individual Member (it’s Free!). To register for a Move United Individual Member Account please visit hub.moveunitedsport.org.

How will I know my application was received?

You will receive an automatic email showing that you application was successfully submitted.

When will I find out if I receive the award?

You will be notified thirty (30) days before the event.

How will the scholarship funding be provided if I am selected?

Scholarships will be provided directly to the athlete via a mailed check from Move United after the submission of the brief post-event report. In the instance of economic hardship upon selection, please inform Move United by reply to the email to discuss an alternative.

As a parent of a youth adaptive athlete, can I apply on their behalf?

Yes, you are welcome to apply on your child’s behalf. Please not that Move United requires a parent or guardian to set up a youth membership account for children ages 13 and under to apply for this award as well as to see other grant opportunities.

Will I get to meet Tatyana?

Possibly! Tatyana has a very busy race schedule, but we will let you know if Tatyana is able to join any of the events in 2024.

What should the award be used for?

The award should be used for youth athlete travel expenses, including air and ground transportation, lodging and meals.

How do I become eligible to compete at The Hartford Nationals in Hoover Alabama in July 2024?

Please note that a separate application will be made available for this competition, as it requires qualification to be invited. The Tatyana McFadden Competitor Award application will be made available for this event May 1 – June 14.

How is Dick's Sporting Goods involved in this program?

DICK’S Sporting Goods is celebrating its 75th year through the 75for75 program, a program that is providing 75 nonprofits financial grant support for youth athletes. World class athletes including Tatyana McFadden participated in the selection of the nonprofit organizations selected that included Move United.
