The Hartford has been inspiring human achievement through adaptive sports movement for more than three decades – and in partnership with Move United, supports adaptive sports events, equipment donations, and athletes.
Every winter since 1993, The Hartford serves as the title sponsor of The Hartford Ski Spectacular, the largest winter festival for youth and adults with disabilities. The programs offered during this week-long event include learn to ski and snowboard lessons, a week-long race camp, Level I Race (Ski Spec Challenge Race), Nordic skiing, free clinics (in Nordic skiing, biathlon, curling, and sled hockey), PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy for Instructors, banquets, and other social/networking events. The Hartford Ski Spectacular strengthens and expands adaptive snow sports programs in communities throughout the U.S. and helps identify and train youth, wounded warriors, and others with disabilities who strive to be winter Paralympians.
Summer events include title sponsorships of five of the most prominent adaptive sports competitions in the United States: Desert Challenge Games, Texas Regional Games, Great Lakes Games, Gateway Games, all leading to The Hartford Nationals. These events provide thousands of youth and adults with disabilities the opportunity to compete in 12 adaptive sports, participate in learning clinics, connect with other like-minded adaptive athletes, and receive national classification. Each event also includes surprise custom equipment donations, the presentation of The Human Achievement Award, and meet-and-greets with champion Para athletes who inspire through their
resilience and success.
Often, the biggest barrier to adaptive sports participation for youth and adults with disabilities is equipment, which can be very expensive. The Hartford’s Human Achievement Program launched in 2019 has made adaptive sports accessible to youth and adults with disabilities through the gifting of adaptive sports equipment. Over the past six years, The Hartford has provided more than 8,500 pieces of adaptive sports equipment, reaching 75,000 athletes in more than 100 communities across the U.S.

Meet The Hartford Achievement Awardee Ty Campbell
Ty Campbell
Ty Campbell (Former U.S. Coast Guard Gunners Mate 1st Class).
During deployment in 2009, Ty fell while on a training operation and sustained injuries to his left knee and hip. After four surgeries and months of physical therapy, Ty was honorably discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard, receiving two U.S. Coast Guard Achievement Medals for his service.
Ty turned to adaptive sports when physical therapy did not provide him with the correct tools to properly transfer back into civilian life. Through adaptive sports, he has been given the opportunity to move forward professionally with the sport of golf, and he now works at TPC Harding Park, a prestigious golf course in San Francisco, as operations manager and assistant professional.
