As part of the 33rd Annual The Hartford Virtual Ski Spectacular, we want you to help us Trek the 1,995 miles between Hartford, Connecticut and Breckenridge, Colorado! Join a community of hundreds of athletes, volunteers, coaches, and adaptive sports staff who are committing to move at least 1 mile from November 25-December 2. You can Run, Push, Walk, Swim, Handcycle, Ski, or Paddle. No matter how you move you can join the MOVEment and help us reach our goal!
Challenge yourself to get outside and participate as an individual or get your friends and family to join the movement by participating as a team! The team with the most creative name will win a Move United Prize. Enter your team name during registration.
Need another motivation to get moving? Anyone who completes one mile of Trek to Breck and provides a $10 donation will be entered into a Prize Drawing for the prizes below, including a free trip to the 2021 The Hartford Ski Spectacular in Breckenridge, Colorado.
How Does it Work?
Register for The Hartford Ski Spectacular and complete the Trek to Breck Registration. Review the FAQs for instructions on how to register for other parts of The Hartford Ski Spectacular at the same time.

Complete at least one mile of movement from November 25 – December 2 and then donate $10 to Move United during registration for an entry to win exciting prizes. Prize Drawing winners will be announced at the Virtual Closing Banquet on December 3, and winners will be notified by email within 3 days of the drawing.

What activities count towards participation?
You can run, walk, swim, handcycle, bike – or any other form of physical activity that can be recorded or logged in miles – at any time and any place from November 25-December 2. Whether you are walking 1 mile, cycling 5 miles per day during the event, or skiing 10 miles, we encourage you to participate in a safe and socially responsible manner.
To make sure your mileage counts towards the Trek to Breck goal, you’ll need to log your workout on your free Strava account and make the workout viewable to all. View the videos under ‘How do I create a Strava Account’ or ‘How do I Find the Move United Club’ to see how to set up your Strava page to ensure your miles count.
Can I participate with friends and family?
Yes! We encourage you to get a group of friends to participate to have everyone be part of the movement. Come up with a fun team name and select “I’m registering as a Team” in the Trek to Breck registration system. The team with the most creative name will win a Move United prize. Note, prize will be capped at 10 team members.
Can I register for Trek to Breck & Ski Spec at the Same Time?
Yes! When registering you have 3 options.
Registering for National Adaptive Academy Training Clinics? If so, select PSIA-AASI & General Participant from the Registration Type dropdown
Registering for Game Night or Virtual Sports Clinics? If so, select General Participant from the Registration Type dropdown
Registering for Trek to Breck Only? If so, select Trek to Breck ONLY from the Registration Type dropdown
When do I need to record my miles?
You may participate in Trek to Breck any time between 12:00 AM EST on Wednesday, November 25 and 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday December 2. Complete all your miles in one day or challenge yourself to complete an activity every day of the challenge. You decide when/how/where you’ll be completing your miles. Record your miles at any point in that window and make sure they are publicly saved on Strava to join the Trek to Breck!
How do I create a Strava account?
Create your Strava account by downloading the Strava app from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or go to www.strava.com to get started. You do not need a paid Strava account to participate in Trek to Breck.

How can I make sure my miles count towards the Trek to Breck activity?
Regardless of how you complete your miles, you will need to create a FREE Strava account and request to join the Move United Strava Club to have your miles counted on during the Trek to Breck period. All activities will need to be set to “Everyone” or “Followers” to ensure they’re counted (The Club can’t see your workout if you select “Only Me”).
We encourage you to use a GPS enabled device to record your miles. We will also accept manual activity uploads to the Strava club on the honor system.

Why aren’t my activities showing up on the leaderboard?
Unfortunately, Strava only includes running, swimming, and cycling activities for leaderboard tracking, but don’t fret! You can still help us Trek to Breck. For other types of workouts they will appear in our recent activity, and count towards the total for Trek to Breck.
I don’t have a GPS-enabled device. Can I still Trek to Breck?
You betcha! Strava allows you to manually enter your workout info and have it count towards our goal. You can also do this if you completed an indoor activity like treadmill running or chasing after your kids or puppy.
Sadly, no. Every individual will be entered into the prize drawing only one time. We encourage you to still complete as many miles as you are able to, during the Trek to Breck event period.
No race is complete without a race bib! Check back closer to the kickoff of Trek to Breck or check your email to download your bib. Print it out to wear on race day or keep it to commemorate your achievement.
Why are you trekking from Hartford to Breckenridge?
For 33 years, The Hartford has been the title sponsor of The Hartford Ski Spectacular, an annual event that takes place in Breckenridge, Colorado. The event encourages athletes, instructors and supporters to get outside and join the adaptive sports movement through lessons, race training, instructor training and community building activities.
This year, since we can’t all be together in person, we’re virtually trekking from their offices in Hartford, Connecticut to Breckenridge, Colorado.
