Athlete in racing wheelchair on track

Aerelle Jones

"The moment I discovered wheelchair racing, I fell in love with the sport." — Aerelle Jones

Jones is a track and field athlete from Nicholasville, Kentucky, born with Klippel-Feil syndrome, a condition that affects the development of bones in the spine. From the beginning, she felt an immediate connection to wheelchair racing.

With no adaptive track programs in her area, Jones and her coach—who is also her dad—turned to YouTube videos and taught themselves the fundamentals. She started competing in local 5Ks and 10Ks, the only opportunities available at the time.

As Jones continued exploring the sport, she discovered track racing and knew she had found her passion. In her debut season, she qualified for Junior Nationals and earned the title of High School All-American.

Jones has continued her training and competition journey, traveling across the country from California to New Jersey, Georgia, Illinois, and beyond. She races to grow, push her limits, and pursue excellence in the sport she loves.
