Austin Olive

After years of playing baseball, basketball and football those sports became too dangerous. After a baseball game where I got too hot I realized I needed to find another sport. Besides having Cerebral Palsy I was born with Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia in which I have missing sweat glands in areas of my body, sweat glands that don’t work and in other areas that my sweat glands do work. Unfortunately it’s not enough to keep me from overheating very easily. I can not maintain or regulate my body temperature. I started swimming at 15 years old, Para Swimming at 16. I didn’t know what I was doing, the water sure does know. It regulates my body temperature for me. My first competition at Angel City Games I fell in love with Swimming and in love with sports all over again.

It has opened a whole new world for me. I was trapped before because of what my body could not do. I was too disabled to play with the “normal” kids. My Cerebral Palsy does affect me but the Challenger baseball team in my city was for those with cognitive disabilities - so I was not disabled enough. Now at Move United I AM enough just being ME.
