"Adapt and overcome." - U.S. Army Veteran Martin (Kyle) Moxley
Moxley enlisted in the Army in 1998 and deployed to Iraq during the Iraq War. While completing a patrol in 2004, his vehicle was ambushed by an IED that sent shrapnel through his right arm, nearly severing it completely. He underwent extensive surgery to rebuild what was lost, with doctors taking nerves from his leg to restore function to his arm and hand. Though he lost feeling in his right leg from the knee down, the procedure allowed him to regain use of his arm.
During rehabilitation, Moxley expanded his horizons by returning to school to earn his MBA. His career took him to Alaska before he settled in Colorado, where he discovered his passion for adaptive sports in 2015 at the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic and Ski Spectacular.
What started as an introduction to adaptive skiing quickly became competitive excellence. Moxley began racing with the National Sports Center for the Disabled and earned a spot on the U.S. Para Alpine Development team in 2022. In 2021, he qualified for both the Para-Alpine World Cup and World Championships, representing his country on the international stage.
Beyond the slopes, Moxley embraces diverse adaptive sports including mountain biking, golf, fishing, and water programming. As a Move United Warfighters Ambassador, his mission extends beyond personal achievement—he's dedicated to inspiring wounded and injured veterans to discover their own possibilities through sport.
Moxley continues breaking barriers and expanding what's possible, one slope at a time.
