Rich Dyer, U.S. Army Specialist (retired)

Dyer joined the Army at age 17, as it was always his desire to serve his country. Dyer served as a combat medic in Iraq from April 2008 until July 2009. After his combat tour, and while training in parachute assault operations with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg in 2010, Dyer was injured during training after parachuting from a C-130 and high winds forced him to land in a group of trees. Dyer fractured his spine and neck in four places, fractured and dislocated his shoulder and elbow, fractured his hip, and dislocated his knees. He spent five months in rehabilitation before moving to the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Hood Army Base.

During rehabilitation, Dyer was introduced to Move United’s Warfighter program. Through his involvement with Move United, Dyer has become an avid snowboarder. He has also learned to play golf and cycle. Through sports, Dyer has rebuilt his life and is now studying at Southern New Hampshire University, after being employed at Best Buy and Target in team leader capacities.
