Move United Next Generation Mentorship Program

The Move United Next Generation Mentorship Program is designed to develop the next generation of leaders in the adaptive sports community. This program will pair professionals interested in adaptive sport with volunteers and leaders with decades of experience in their respective areas. The Next Generation Mentorship Program is specific to Move United Sanctioned Competitions and aims to develop individuals in the positions of Sport Lead, Event Director, Logistics Lead, and more. The Next Generation Mentorship Program allows mentors to provide in person shadowing opportunities to help mentees develop the skills they need to succeed within the selected role.

Location, Time Commitment, and Compensation

Location and Time Commitment

In preparation for competition, work will take place remotely with the mentor(s) and mentee(s) meeting virtually. Travel to competition is required for this mentorship opportunity. There are 35+ Move United Sanctioned Competitions taking place throughout the country. Depending upon the mentor’s schedule, mentees will be asked to attend one or more Sanctioned Competitions as well as be required to attend the 2026 The Hartford Nationals.

  • Sanctioned Competition: typically 2 to 4 days of competition plus travel time
  • The Hartford Nationals: July 10 – 17, 2026 – Dates inclusive of travel. Duration of time at Nationals will vary depending on the mentor’s role and commitment at the event.

Move United is looking for individuals that are invested in the adaptive sports community and will remain involved for many years.

 

Compensation

  • Travel expenses to include airfare/mileage and lodging as well as $50 per diem to be paid for by Move United
  • SafeSport training and background screen to be paid for by Move United

Responsibilities and Job Descriptions

Responsibilities for all mentees

Accepted mentees will be required to:

  • Complete any training required for the internship 
  • Maintain regular meetings with their mentor 
  • Participate in an end-of-mentorship review 
  • Be responsible for completing SafeSport training and a background screening

 

In the 2026 season, Move United is seeking mentees for our identified mentors in roles on the Move United Competition Committee outlined below.

Competition Management Application Operator

  • The Competition Management Application Operator supports the Event Director, Sport Lead(s), and Lead Official(s) to ensure that the event runs on schedule, provides accurate results, and delivers a successful experience for the athletes, coaches, volunteers, and spectators. 

 

Para Powerlifting Mentee

  • Mentee works with the Move United national lead for Para Powerlifting at The Hartford Nationals conducted by Move United working alongside the broader team of para powerlifting local lead(s) and officials. Mentee will assist in planning, developing, supervising, supporting, and implementing the para powerlifting competition at The Hartford Nationals.
  • Skills: Experience with para powerlifting and meet management and/or experience as a para powerlifting coach or official preferred

 

Swim Mentee

  • Mentee works with the Move United national lead for Swimming at The Hartford Nationals conducted by Move United working alongside the local team of swim lead(s) and officials. Mentee will assist in planning, developing, supervising, supporting, and implementing the swim competition at The Hartford Nationals.
  • Skills: Experience with Hy-Tek Swimming and meet management and/or experience as a swim coach or official preferred
