General Information
Health and Wellness
A Sports Medicine Team will be onsite from Grandview Hospital during all competitions. Resources on nearby facilities (hospitals, urgent care facilitates, and COVID testing sites) will be shared below as we get closer to the event start date.

Event Venues
The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) is the recommended airport for those traveling to our event via airplane. American Airlines, Delta, Southwest, and United all service Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Ground transportation is the responsibility of each athlete, coach, and family members attending Nationals. Transportation is not provided by the local organizing committee or Move United.

Educational Session – Funding Opportunities for Athletes with Disabilities Going to College

Deborah McFadden, former USA Commissioner of Disabilities will discuss program opportunities for people with disabilities. She has helped student athletes across the country to access colleges and funding and has a goal of getting all students with a disability to graduate from college debt free.
Wheelchair Tennis Clinic

Come and play wheelchair tennis in a fun and engaging way! USTA has a pathway from beginner all the way to Grand Slam stardom. The goal is to introduce you to this wonderful sport and help you find local programming in your area.

There will be something for everyone at this event. Enjoy popsicles with Nationals sponsor Gametime at the Hoover Met’s fully accessible Explore Playground and splash pad, challenge your friends to tailgating games in the Athlete Village, or enjoy a beverage at the Brocks gap brewery. Food trucks will be available near the Athlete Village to grab dinner before we kick things off at the Welcome Ceremony. Clinics will also be offered from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM as a part of the action.
Boccia Clinic powered by Boccia United States

Join Boccia United States to learn more about this Paralympic sport and opportunities to get involved in your community! National High Performance Manager Dr. Kathy Brinker and athlete Scott Stokes will lead the hands-on clinic that will take you through some of the basic rules and strategies of the game. Athletes will also have the chance to get on court and try their hand at the game. See you on court!

An introductory sitting volleyball clinic will be offered to all who wish to participate. The clinic will teach athletes the various skills in sitting volleyball, how to sit and move on the floor efficiently, and provide an opportunity for game play so that all can gain sitting volleyball experience. This clinic is geared towards athletes and coaches. No equipment required.

Welcome Ceremony

Join the Parade of Athletes and celebrate those involved in The Hartford Nationals at the Welcome Ceremony. There will be entertainment from special guest George Domain, one of the artists on Rising Phoenix, and fun that you won’t want to miss. Join us before the event for socials, clinics, and food trucks then head on over to the Hoover Met where doors open and staging for the Parade of Athletes starts at 5:00 PM. The Welcome Ceremony pep rally begins at 5:25 pm. Move United will provide each state flag for the Parade of Athletes. In case of inclement weather, the Ceremony will be moved indoors to the Finley Center.
Para Swimming Development Clinic
Tuesday, July 16: 9:00am - 10:30am and 11:00am - 12:30pm (repeat sessions)
Location: Lakeshore Foundation
Developmental camps are ideal for newer swimmers, regardless of age, who are interested in learning more about the sport of Para swimming, U.S. Paralympics Swimming and some basic techniques and strategies for training and competing as a Para swimmer. Athletes do not need to have been previously classified but should be signed up for classification at the event. Camp will include both in water and classroom sessions and will be led by U.S. Para Swimming staff and/or National Team coaches.

Para-College Recruiting Showcase

Are you a middle school or high school athlete with dreams of taking your sport to the next level by competing in the NCAA? Then you are not going to want to miss The Para-College Recruiting Showcase! This recruiting event is the first of its kind, bringing adaptive athletics programs and prospective para-college athletes together in one space. This event will feature a panel of coaches and current adaptive student-athletes, followed by a recruiting tabling event where athletes and families will have the opportunity to make connections and learn information about NCAA adaptive sports programs.
Closing Celebration

Close out the week with an evening of awards and entertainment at the 2024 The Hartford Nationals Closing Celebration. Sign up for the closing celebration dinner during the registration process and wrap up the week in style.
