Overview:  Sportable Richmond Adaptive Sports and Recreation is an adaptive sports, recreation, and wellness organization that aspires to be the best in the country at providing sporting and recreational opportunities to those with physical disabilities and visual impairments.

 

Job Description:  In the role of sports programming coordinator, your main responsibility will involve overseeing various sports and recreation programs with Sportable, including wheelchair lacrosse, archery, CP soccer, road racing, wheelchair tennis, and blind soccer. The key function of this position is to plan and execute sports and recreation programming tailored for individuals with physical and visual disabilities. You will also assist with program delivery as needed, which includes conducting athlete assessments, modifying equipment for optimal use, making necessary adaptations, and providing instruction.

 

Category Type: This is a full-time, non-exempt position.  Some night and weekend work is required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with fellow Program Coordinators to design and implement programs, while also contributing insights on daily operations and the strategic direction of upcoming program-related initiatives
  • Collaborate with Program Team on supplies purchasing and inventory management
  • Supervise interns, coaches, and volunteers; and, lead volunteer training sessions for each program
  • Develop, nurture, and sustain relationships with both community and national partners that play a crucial role in providing high-quality, impactful Sportable programming.
  • Assist with data management, monitor grant tracking and administration, handle athlete registrations, and gather outcome-based feedback from athletes and volunteers.
  • Ensure that adaptive equipment, vehicles, and other Sportable resources are maintained in accordance with the Sportable Staff Handbook and the Operational Procedures Manual.
  • Attend staff meetings with Sportable program team, and when needed, coaches and program volunteers.
  • Offer administrative assistance with managing facility contracts, preparing outcome reports, conducting athlete assessments, handling tournament documentation, processing paperwork for athletes, volunteers, and coaches, as well as facilitating communications and program plans for athletes and volunteers.
  • Partner with coaches and community organizations to develop budgets for responsible sports programs and special events, collaborating with the COO for final approval.
  • Support special events focused on responsible sports programming throughout the year.

Education, Qualifications, and Skills:

  • Passionate about Sportable’s mission
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Park & Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field preferred
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist® (CTRS) preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in working with individuals with disability preferred
  • Experience with CRMs/databases, Salesforce preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently
  • Proficient in collaborating effectively with team members and experience with coordinating staff, volunteers, and various stakeholders
  • Comfortable working on multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently
  • Strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
  • Ability to work remotely and travel to related adaptive sport events, tournaments, and competitions.
  • Evening and weekend work required
