Let’s have some fun together and enjoy some healthy activity through the Pass The Buck Fitness Challenge!

Join a community committed to moving between September 1-September 15. You can Run, Push, Walk, Swim, Handcycle, Ski, or Paddle. No matter if you are looking for a healthy kick-start to the fall, or are already in a great fitness groove, you can have fun in this event and Pass the Buck with The Hartford’s charity partner Move United!  The buck will be active too, each day completing a number of miles and sharing progress – if at the end of the two weeks, you are ahead of the buck, you are automatically entered to win prizes!

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

What activities count towards participation?

You can run, walk, swim, handcycle, bike – or any other form of physical activity that can be recorded or logged in miles – at any time and any place from September 1-September 15. Whether you are walking 1 mile, cycling 5 miles per day during the event, we encourage you to participate in a safe and socially responsible manner.

To make sure your mileage counts towards the Pass the Buck event, you’ll need to log your workout on your free Strava account and make the workout viewable to all.

When do I need to record my miles?

You may participate in Pass The Buck any time between 12:00 AM EST on September 1 and 11:59 PM EST on September 15. Complete all your miles in one day or challenge yourself to complete an activity every day of the challenge. You decide when/how/where you’ll be completing your miles. Record your miles at any point in that window and make sure they are publicly saved on Strava for Pass The Buck!

How do I create a Strava account?

Create your Strava account by downloading the Strava app from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or go to www.strava.com to get started. You do not need a paid Strava account to participate in Pass The Buck. Need some help? Follow this step by step video on how to set up a Strava account (browser version):

How can I make sure my miles count towards the Pass the Buck event?

Regardless of how you complete your miles, you will need to create a FREE Strava account and join the Pass The Buck group by clicking this link and choosing “Request to Join” to have your miles counted. All activities will need to be set to “Everyone” or “Followers” to ensure they’re counted (The Club can’t see your workout if you select “Only Me”).

We encourage you to use a GPS enabled device to record your miles. We will also accept manual activity uploads to the Strava club on the honor system.

Why aren’t my activities showing up on the leaderboard?

Unfortunately, Strava only includes running, swimming, and cycling activities for leaderboard tracking, but don’t fret! You can still Pass The Buck. For other types of workouts they will appear in our recent activity, and count towards the total for Pass The Buck.

I don’t have a GPS-enabled device. Can I still Pass the Buck?

You betcha! Strava allows you to manually enter your workout info and have it count towards our goal. You can also do this if you completed an indoor activity like treadmill running or chasing after your kids or puppy.

Here’s how to manually add a workout:
