Ariel Roman

Ariel Roman was a hard-nosed athlete who truly loved wheelchair sports and being highly competitive in all events. He always faced extremely strong competition, especially on the international level. He continually ranked high in the medal count for Team USA and was selected to ten different international teams, in large part due to his versatility.

In 1968, Ariel was selected for the USA Paralympic Team in Tel Aviv, Israel and broke both records for the Class II 60 and 100 yard dashes. He also was the recipient of the John F. Kennedy Physical Fitness Award.
In 1969, Ariel broke records in the 60 and 100 yard dashes, the 4 X 100 relay and the mile and was selected to represent the USA at the Stoke-Mandeville Games in England.

At the International Games in England in 1970, Ariel won gold medals in the 60 and 100 yard dashes, the 4 X 100 yard relay, the slalom and competed on the USA Basketball Team.

That same year at the International Games in Switzerland, Ariel also won the gold medal as a member of the USA Basketball Team.
