For an overview of all the key volunteer roles see the information below:

Game role volunteer sessions will typically consist of at least 2 full games. Please refer to the local organizing volunteer coordinator for specific volunteer session details for this tournament.

 

SET-UP:

Volunteer will help with set up of the tournament, including marking of fields, setting up banners and signage, packing and unpacking, and check-in of tournament equipment.

  • Physical Skills Required: Highly physical role. Volunteer may need to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for organized and motivated volunteers who are comfortable with following instructions on-site to assist with creating a first-class atmosphere for USAWFL athletes.
  • Number of Roles: 15-20 per session
  • Time Commitment Friday 10 AM – 2:00 PM

 

DOWNS PERSON:

Volunteer will ensure players stats will be kept for seasonal posterity using the scoring sheets provided. A sample scoring and stats sheet will be provided on-site for reference to assist the volunteer.

  • Physical Skills Required: Minimally physical role. Must be able to hold up the down marker (approx. 8 lbs.) for the length of a game. May be done seated or standing.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who is semi-knowledgeable in football rules and understands the basics of down management.
  • Number of Roles: 1 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

 

BALL PERSON:

Volunteer will ensure officials always have access to at least one ball on the field and one on the sidelines ready to come into play.

  • Physical Skills Required: Minimally physical role. Must be able to track down balls that come off the field of play and get balls to the lead official quickly to keep game play moving.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who wants to be near the action.
  • Number of Roles: 1 to 2 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

 

SCORER’S TABLE (TIMER/SCORE):

Volunteer will ensure games run smoothly by running the game clock and keeping score on provided scoreboards. Volunteer will also assist the stats keeping volunteer as appropriate.

  • Physical Skills Required: Mostly seated role.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who is comfortable with football rules and timing and is able to pay close attention to officials during game play.
  • Number of Roles:1 to 2 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

 

SCORER’S TABLE (STAT’S KEEPER):

Volunteer will ensure players stats will be kept for seasonal posterity using the scoring sheets provided. A sample scoring and stats sheet will be provided on-site for reference to assist the volunteer.

  • Physical Skills Required: Mostly seated role. 
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who is semi-knowledgeable in football rules and basic stats and can stay focused during the length of a game.
  • Number of Roles: 1 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

 

SCOREER’S TABLE (CLASSIFICATION TRACKER): 

Volunteer will ensure that each team’s total classification allotment of active on-field athletes does not exceed 21 points. To assist in the tracking, each athlete will have a “classification tag” attached on the back of their sports chair that outlines their classification in addition to a handout with each athlete’s jersey number and classification.

  • Physical Skills Required: Minimally physical, volunteer will be required to walk along the sideline following gameplay. May be done seated or standing.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who is comfortable with addition and is able to pay close attention to officials and gameplay.
  • Number of Roles: 2 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

Classification at this Tournament

Move United will host classification appointments at the first three tournaments of the 2023 season. Appointments will be held on Friday from 9 AM – 7 PM and Saturday AM until Noon. After the appointments, classifiers will observe athletes in competition on Saturday afternoon to help clarify their Final Class assignments.

 

Teams received their 5 assigned time slots for the season on June 12, 2024.

Game role volunteer sessions will typically consist of at least 2 full games. Please refer to the local organizing volunteer coordinator for specific volunteer session details for this tournament.

 

SET-UP:

Volunteer will help with set up of the tournament, including marking of fields, setting up banners and signage, packing and unpacking, and check-in of tournament equipment.

  • Physical Skills Required: Highly physical role. Volunteer may need to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for organized and motivated volunteers who are comfortable with following instructions on-site to assist with creating a first-class atmosphere for USAWFL athletes.
  • Number of Roles: 15-20 per session
  • Time Commitment Friday 10 AM – 2:00 PM

 

DOWNS PERSON:

Volunteer will ensure players stats will be kept for seasonal posterity using the scoring sheets provided. A sample scoring and stats sheet will be provided on-site for reference to assist the volunteer.

  • Physical Skills Required: Minimally physical role. Must be able to hold up the down marker (approx. 8 lbs.) for the length of a game. May be done seated or standing.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who is semi-knowledgeable in football rules and understands the basics of down management.
  • Number of Roles: 1 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

 

BALL PERSON:

Volunteer will ensure officials always have access to at least one ball on the field and one on the sidelines ready to come into play.

  • Physical Skills Required: Minimally physical role. Must be able to track down balls that come off the field of play and get balls to the lead official quickly to keep game play moving.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who wants to be near the action.
  • Number of Roles: 1 to 2 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

 

SCORER’S TABLE (TIMER/SCORE):

Volunteer will ensure games run smoothly by running the game clock and keeping score on provided scoreboards. Volunteer will also assist the stats keeping volunteer as appropriate.

  • Physical Skills Required: Mostly seated role.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who is comfortable with football rules and timing and is able to pay close attention to officials during game play.
  • Number of Roles:1 to 2 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

 

SCORER’S TABLE (STAT’S KEEPER):

Volunteer will ensure players stats will be kept for seasonal posterity using the scoring sheets provided. A sample scoring and stats sheet will be provided on-site for reference to assist the volunteer.

  • Physical Skills Required: Mostly seated role. 
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who is semi-knowledgeable in football rules and basic stats and can stay focused during the length of a game.
  • Number of Roles: 1 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

 

SCORER’S TABLE (CLASSIFICATION TRACKER):

Volunteer will ensure that each team’s total classification allotment of active on-field athletes does not exceed 21 points. To assist in the tracking, each athlete will have a “classification tag” attached on the back of their sports chair that outlines their classification in addition to a handout with each athlete’s jersey number and classification.

  • Physical Skills Required: Minimally physical, volunteer will be required to walk along the sideline following gameplay. May be done seated or standing.
  • Key Role Assets: Best suited for a volunteer who is comfortable with addition and is able to pay close attention to officials and gameplay.
  • Number of Roles: 2 per field per game
  • Time Commitment: 1 game (2 hours)

The Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in the Chicagoland community. GLASA provides a continuum of 20+ developmental to elite level adaptive sports locally while also providing programming to athletes in thirty states. Tournament Lodging

Hotel block rates have closed for this tournament. If family and friends are looking to book rooms, you can direct them to the Roseville/Brooklyn Center area where there are many lodging options within a 15 minute drive of the National Sports Center.

 

Classification at this Tournament

Move United will host classification appointments at the first three tournaments of the 2023 season. Appointments will be held on Friday from 9 AM – 7 PM and Saturday AM until Noon. After the appointments, classifiers will observe athletes in competition on Saturday afternoon to help clarify their Final Class assignments.

Teams received their 5 assigned time slots for the season on June 12, 2024.
