“Sports to me means opportunity. Adaptive sports has given me the opportunity to interact with others who have disabilities that limits their abilities to engage in sport activities that I enjoy.” - Chaplain Marie Melton

Melton served actively in the Army National Guard and U.S. Navy. She has several military occupational specialties from both branches. Melton served onboard USS. John C. Stennis CVN-74, a nuclear aircraft carrier vessel with a crew of 6,200 sailors.

Melton has a couple of disabilities due to being in a near fatal car accident while serving as an Army Recruiter.

Since becoming a Move United Warfighter Ambassador in 2024, Melton has participated in several sanctioned competitions in various sports (cycling, para powerlifting, throwing events), attended The Hartford Nationals, attended Move United’s NAC Ambassador training, received funding through the Mentor Program VA deliverable and mentored another veteran.

Melton is currently an All-American with USATF Masters Division. Cycling is her passion.
