"Sport keeps me connected to my adaptive community. It also keeps me competitive training and maintaining that edge." - U.S. Army Cavalry Scout Matthew Scholten

Matthew Scholten served as a Cavalry Scout for 20 years, working in all positions of a Scout Platoon. He was wounded by an IED in 2007 but demonstrated remarkable resilience, returning to his unit to complete his military service.

During his transition from the Army, Scholten discovered adaptive sports as part of his recovery from spinal fusion surgery. What began as physical rehabilitation evolved into something much more meaningful - a pathway to mental and physical healing that would reshape his post-military life.

Scholten's athletic journey has been one of continuous evolution. Starting with individual shooting sports, he progressed through various disciplines, eventually making it to Army Team selection level. His competitive drive led him to embrace team sports, finding a powerful balance between individual excellence and collective achievement.
Today, Scholten competes in wheelchair football while returning to his shooting sports roots. This blend reflects his understanding that different sports serve different purposes in his life - each contributing to his overall well-being and competitive edge.

As a Move United Warfighters Ambassador, Scholten represents the transformative power of adaptive sports in military recovery. His journey demonstrates how athletic participation creates lasting connections within the adaptive community while maintaining the competitive spirit that defined his military service.

Scholten's story exemplifies how adaptive sports can evolve alongside personal growth, offering new challenges and opportunities for connection throughout life's transitions.
