Move United Warfighters offers sports rehabilitation for veterans and members of the Armed Services with physical disabilities.  Since its inception by members of the 10th Mountain Division to serve injured Vietnam veterans, Move United Warfighters has proudly served more than 19,000 wounded warriors and their family members, including those injured in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, at no cost to the warfighter or family. Sports make us victorious, more resilient and stronger every day. Shift the narrative and join forces with us.

Move United Warfighters provides free adaptive sports programming to all service members and veterans with a permanent physical disability. 

 

WHO QUALIFIES?

  • Must have permanent physical disability
  • Disabilities served include (but are not limited to) amputation, traumatic brain injury, visual impairments, muscle, burn and nerve damage and spinal cord injury.
  • Includes any veteran or service member injured Pre or Post 2001, combat or non-combat injured

  • How long has Move United provided adaptive sports to warfighters?
    • For more than 65 years.
  • Does Move United serve veterans with disabilities acquired before and after 9/11?
    • Yes!  We have served veterans with physical disabilities for 65+ years, serving more than 19,000+ pre- and post-9/11 veterans with disabilities and their family members.
  • Does Move United serve veterans with combat and non-combat related disabilities?
    • Yes! Whether the disability was acquired through combat or not, Move United and its member network are ready to provide veterans with disabilities adaptive sports opportunities.
  • What disabilities qualify a veteran to participate in Move United programs?
    • Move United focuses on veterans with physical disabilities who need sports adaptations the most: those with single and multiple amputations, severe traumatic brain injuries, visual impairments, severe muscle, burn and nerve damage and spinal cord injuries.
  • Why does Move United focus specifically on those disabilities?
    • Move United is a small nonprofit with resources focused on veterans most in need of adaptive sports equipment, specialized instruction, accessible sports facilities, accessible transportation, etc.
    • While Move United does not have the resources to serve veterans beyond those described in question #3, many of our 225+ member organizations do, such as Higher Ground and Team River Runner to name two examples.

    • Move United has focused exclusively on adaptive sport because sports are a uniquely powerful way to help veterans become physically, mentally and socially stronger after injury.

    • More than 70 adaptive sports are offered through Move United and its network of 225+ member organizations across the U.S.
  • What costs does Move United cover for veteran participants?
    • Move United covers the costs of adaptive instruction, adaptive sports equipment, and facilities at Move United Warfighter sponsored events.

  • What are Move United Warfighter Ambassadors?
    • Move United Warfighter Ambassadors are a small, select group of veterans who have been served by Move United and who are committed to helping other veterans with disabilities discover the power of adaptive sports.
    • Ambassadors share their stories of military service and adaptive sports participation, outreaching to veterans and engaging the public.
