Adrina Castro's journey with adaptive sports began when her sister encouraged her to try wheelchair basketball during a challenging time. After her second spine surgery at age seven, she faced multiple procedures and a period of depression, wondering if she'd ever play sports again. That's when wheelchair basketball changed everything.
Since discovering the game through Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports, Adrina has become a force on the court. She's earned 2020 Junior Athlete of the Year, won three national championships and DK3on3, and is working toward her goal of joining Team USA. Mentored by legends like Matt Scott, Rose Hollerman, DK, and Chris Kommer, she's committed to becoming not just a gold medal-winning Paralympian, but also a mentor and positive role model for the next generation of athletes.
Adaptive sports opened unexpected doors for Adrina beyond the basketball court. She's built a career in modeling and acting, working with major brands including Nike, Apple, Walmart, and JCPenney. Her proudest moment came when she was invited to speak at the White House for the Olympic and Paralympic celebration—a surreal experience she'll never forget.
As a Move United Member athlete, Adrina understands what sports mean to community and connection. From her earliest memories of attending football games and making faces with her sister on the Jumbotron, she's known that sports bring people together. Now she's using that power to inspire others and show what's possible when the adaptive community embraces you and motivates you to be your best.
For Adrina, wheelchair basketball didn't just give her a sport—it gave her a path forward, a community, and a platform to show the world her superpower.
