2025 Presenter Application

2025 Move United Education Conference 

Deadline: November 1st, 2024

Move United is seeking athletes, sport providers and sport professionals to develop and deliver curriculum at the Move United Education Conference.

 

Please complete the Presenter Call for Proposals after reading the descriptions below:

  • Pre-Conference Workshop (half day to multi-day, May 3-5)
    • Examples:  2-day adaptive climbing instructor training, 2-day risk management training, 1-day anti-bias training
  • Conference Session/Workshop (60 or 90 minutes, during the main conference May 6-7)
  • 30-minute Talk (i.e. TED talk format, during the main conference May 6 or 7) aligning with one of the session tracks listed below.
  • 1 Hour Roundtable Discussion (Informal guided discussion, intended for thought-sharing)

 

Session proposals must align with one of the following tracks:

Non-Profit Management – This track will offer training and resources around business operation best-practices for your nonprofit. All attendees are invited to join this track.

Example Topics:

        • SafeSport/protecting athletes
        • Revenue generation
        • Board of directors/Governance
        • Engaging local community/city and the impact on growth
        • Evolving DEI environment and challenges
        • Volunteer shortages and recruitment strategies
        • Staff recruitment & retention
        • Marketing strategies

Note there will be a sub-track dedicated to content for executive directors and organization leadership. If you feel that your session is pertinent to this audience, please note such in the application.

 

Sport-Specific Instruction – This track offers hands-on, interactive learning opportunities for various adaptive sports. All attendees are invited to this track.

Example Topics:

        • Adaptive mountain bike workshop – building development pathway
        • Adative swim instruction skills
        • Adaptive pickle ball for all levels
        • Intrcution tool-kit for adaptive tennis
        • Equipment 101 for operating an adaptive biking program

 

Inclusion in Schools & Universities – This track will offer content around creating inclusive spaces for children in the school systems as well as for individuals at the university level. This will include the classroom, extracurriculuar activities, curriculum offerings, sports teams and more. As with other tracks, all attendees are invited to participate in this track.

Example Topics:

      • Inclusion best practices in the PE classroom
      • Building after-school programs for all to access
      • Including adaptive in existing school-sport programs
      • Advocating for your athlete’s participation on the school team
      • Inclusion in university recreation programs
      • Inclusive disability in OT/PT sport curriculum

 

Intersections with Medical Professionals

This track will offer content through and for the lens of individuals who are medical professionals (i.e. occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, etc.). As with other tracks, all attendees are invited to participate in this track.

Example Topics:

      • Foundations of classifications
      • Inter-disciplinary collaboration in adaptive sports
      • Introduction to prosthetics for running
      • Adpative sport equiment fittings

 

  • Please note that examples listed are simply to provide ideas as to which topics may fall within each track.
  • Within each track, various session will be offered to accommodate different audiences (i.e. general sport provider new to working with individuals with disabilities, inclusive sport provider, adaptive sport provider)
  • Sessions with an understood priority to integrate DEI lens will be prioritized.
  • Proposals will be reviewed with the following taken into consideration: relevance to conference theme & tracks, feedback from past conferences about areas of need, diversity of presenter experiences and background as well as diversity of session topic, qualifications of presenter, clarity of session purpose, quality of proposal, and other considerations.
  • Presenters will receive complimentary registration to the 2025 Move United Education Conference. Sessions may have up to 3 presenters.

Conference sessions should strive to:

  • Engage the audience with interactive presentation
  • Appeal to different learning styles
  • Highlight innovative, groundbreaking developments
  • Promote evidenced-based practices
  • Incorporate anecdotes to reference actual experiences in the field
  • Collaborate with co-presenter(s) where it would be beneficial to add value to the session
  • Include an experiential component if appropriate
  • Provide attendees with key takeaways

HOW WILL MOVE UNITED BE SELECTING PRESENTERS?

Move United Education Conference Committee will evaluate the submissions and select top presenters for further review, considering the following:
1. Presenter has connection to the mission and core values of Move United.
2. Reputation and experience of the presenter.
3. Diversity of background and experiences.
4. Quality of performance and services as a sport provider, public speaker, and/or educator.
5. Capability of the presenter to perform the services within the specified time constraints.
6. Expertise is suitable to address the session/workshop topic.

More than 50 wounded warfighters and family members will participate in our gala this year, including sharing their stories on stage.
